GEO Source Trust Scorecards: Which Pages Deserve Adoption?

A six-dimension audit of identity, evidence, freshness, consistency, transparency, and traceability for owned and external sources.

Trust should be observable, not merely claimed

Teams often request “more authority” without defining it. An unsupported sponsored article on a famous domain may be less suitable for a factual conclusion than transparent original data on a company website. A strong study can also become misleading after its context expires.

A GEO source trust scorecard does not reverse-engineer a platform's private ranking system. It uses visible dimensions to test whether a page is useful and verifiable for people and machines.

Audit six dimensions

Identity asks whether the publisher, organization, author, expertise, contact details, and commercial relationships are clear. Important decision content should not hide who wrote or reviewed it.

Evidence checks whether conclusions connect to original data, official files, documented cases, or an explicit method. Citations must support the actual claim, not merely discuss a similar topic.

Freshness records publication date, substantive update, data period, and valid range. Price, regulation, platform features, and product capability need shorter cycles. The content freshness guide provides a lifecycle model.

Consistency compares important organization, product, location, qualification, and numeric facts across owned and external sources. Wording may differ; core facts and relationships should not conflict.

Method transparency examines the sample, definitions, calculations, comparison criteria, exclusions, limitations, and potential bias behind a study, ranking, or case.

Traceability and access ask whether a reader can reach the original evidence through stable links, readable text, canonical URLs, page references, or transcripts. A chain of reposts and inaccessible screenshots makes verification difficult.

Score simply and preserve evidence

Use zero, one, or two points for each dimension: absent, partial, or sufficient. Add risk flags for safety, medical, legal, financial, price, qualification, or privacy-sensitive content. The total is a prioritization aid, not a scientific prediction.

Content owners can perform the first review; business or subject experts should verify important claims. Preserve notes and evidence behind the score. Page types may use different weights, but the rules must remain documented and stable.

Turn weaknesses into work

Identity gaps call for organization, author, and editorial information. Evidence gaps require original material. Freshness gaps require review or archival. Consistency gaps return to the source of truth. Opaque methods need definitions and limitations. Traceability gaps need better text, links, and page structure.

Prioritize high-business-value, low-trust pages. Low-value historical material may be merged or archived rather than maintained indefinitely. Compare scorecard findings with the citation source audit to see what selected sources have in common.

Validate outcomes without worshiping the score

Review important sources quarterly. Observe whether AI citations become more accurate, users can verify claims more easily, and sales spends less time correcting public facts. A transparent page can improve customer trust even when it is not selected by a model.

The scorecard's final question is simple: who made this claim, what supports it, when is it valid, is it consistent, how was it produced, and can a reader return to the original evidence?

This article is based on local Source Trust, source-ingestion, and GEO audit notes. The scorecard is an internal governance tool, not an official rating from any search or AI platform.
